Richie Zellon , director and principal instructor for Miami Jazz Guitar, has spent several years as professor of jazz guitar at both the University Of South Florida in Tampa and Florida International University in Miami as well as other music schools. He was a columnist for Jazz Improv magazine from 1999 to 2008. As performer and recording artist he has worked with David Liebman, Paquito D’Rivera, Jerry Bergonzi, Danilo Perez, Sam Rivers, Alex Acuna, Abraham Laboriel and a host of others. Richie is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and has also received private instruction from Pat The Great Jazz GuitaristsMartino, Red Rodney and Charles Banacos. Due to his innovations in the field of jazz and latin music he has been profiled in several books on the history of Jazz such as “The Great Jazz Guitarists” by Scott Yanow and “The Jazz Guitar: Its Evolution, Players and Personalities Since 1900” by Maurice J. Summerfield and “Caliente:  Una Historia del Latin Jazz” by Luc Delanoy.

In addition, Richie is also one of the first certified Suzuki Guitar teachers in the country and first worked teaching children this method throughout the 90’s at the Longwood Suzuki School of Music in Central Florida. He has since combined several  principles of the Suzuki system with other methods in order to teach children not only classical music but also rock, blues and even jazz! He is the author of a 3 book series entitled: “The Bebop Guitar Improv Series”.

Enrique Gardano has taught at the State University of New York (Newpaltz and Stonybrook),Montclair State University (New Jersey) and Inter American University (Puerto Rico). Enrique attended Mannes College in New York City and graduated from The New School College (New York). He obtained his Masters Degree in Music from the University of Miami. He has also received private instruction from jazz guitarist, Chuck Wayne as well as classical guitar master, Narciso Yepes.

 

Luigi Salvatore has several years of private teaching experience and performed for many years as a jazz guitarist throughout Europe. He has studied at the Sienna Jazz Foundation in Tuscany, Italy as well as in Miami under Richie Zellon.
